CLEAR CREEK ISD (LEAGUE CITY, TX) – COLLEGE/WORKFORCE READINESS
In just two years of using Naviance, one high school in Clear Creek ISD reported an increase in the percent of students attending 4-year colleges – from 53% to 62%.
Suzie Thomas, Director of Student Personnel Services, Clear Creek Independent School District shares her thoughts on Naviance Succeed and why it has made a difference.
“Naviance Succeed has allowed CCISD to align the District goal of providing rigorous learning opportunities and curricula that transcend state and national standards to improve the achievement of each student while meeting their individual needs and aspirations. The program also allows the counselors to enhance our Developmental Guidance and Counseling Programs, as well as increase the number of students identified as college/workforce ready.”
Students, families, schools and the district office are all benefiting from Naviance Succeed at CCISD. Naviance was first purchased in 2004 when Suzie Thomas was a counselor in the district. Once Suzie became Director, she expanded and continues to expand the functionality used within Naviance Succeed.
Suzie commented,” I could see the electronic system was going to allow more student/ parent involvement in their own process. I am a firm believer of building an electronic portfolio that can grow with our students”. CCISD uses Naviance to allow students to build their personal college/career goals. Beginning in grade 6, CCISD delivers Advisory lessons they developed to help individual students progress through Naviance and to complete their milestones. With the Naviance Succeed Success Planning functionality, those lessons will be managed and tracked within Naviance Succeed. And the district is benefiting from having tracking reports created electronically, rather than by hand.
CCISD has taken advantage of the Naviance Professional Development curriculum. Suzie shared, “This has helped spark gears into action. Naviance has made a tremendous impact in our ability to communicate with students and parents about the importance of pursuing a higher education. It has also helped our counselors track our students, adding a more personalized touch during student and parent conferences”.
Clear Creek ISD is comprised of 26 elementary, 9 intermediate and 6 high schools and is considered a fast growth school district with more than 800 new students enrolled every year. By 2020, CCISD is projected to be home to 47,000 students. Rapid growth presents a number of challenges to the budget, resources and the ability to maintain high standards of performance. However, for 12 years, the district has earned a Recognized rating from the State and now all CCISD schools are Exemplary or Recognized.
