TUCSON, AZ (July 09, 2015) – On the final day of Naviance Summer Institute 2015, Hobsons was pleased to recognize leaders from Cincinnati Public Schools, Charleston County School District, and Adams 12 Five Star Schools, as the 2015 Naviance Summer Institute Award winners. Stephen Smith, President of Advising and Admissions at Hobsons and co-founder of Naviance, announced the award winners during the closing ceremony of the weeklong Naviance Summer Institute, held July 6-9 in Tucson, Arizona.
The awards program is designed to recognize leaders in the field of education who are using Naviance in schools, districts, and organizations to help students prepare for college and career.
“We have a profound and heartfelt appreciation for the work that educators are doing on behalf of students all across the world,” said Smith. “The point of the Naviance Summer Institute Awards is to acknowledge those individuals, schools, and districts who are doing exceptional things through Naviance with their students to advance their academic success.”
The 2015 Naviance Award Winners:
Excellence in Leadership (School) Award: Anjela Schwab, Horizon High School, Adams 12 Five Star Schools (Denver, CO)
Anjela Schwab, a counselor at Horizon High School in suburban Denver, is a passionate and inspirational leader in the Adams 12 Five Star School district. Through her leadership, drive, and excitement for Naviance, she has been a model for other counselors in the district during their implementation of Naviance. Her custom instruction and tutorials for her colleagues were instrumental in a smooth and successful implementation of Naviance, and her drive for continuous improvement has inspired other counselors to become experts with the system.
Excellence in Leadership (District) Award: Amy Neloms, Charleston County School District (Charleston, SC)
Amy Neloms, Director of Guidance and Counseling at Charleston County School District, was instrumental in the implementation of Naviance across the district. Known for her commitment to each school and student within the district, Amy has demonstrated excellent leadership and works tirelessly to ensure that school counselors are well-equipped to help students succeed and to streamline their every-day work processes.
Naviance Innovative Program of the Year: Cincinnati Public Schools: My Tomorrow (Cincinnati, OH)
Cincinnati Public Schools’ My Tomorrow program is a bold vision for education that combines high expectations, technology, and mentoring to prepare students for success when they graduate high school. Naviance has been a cornerstone of the My Tomorrow program, assisting high school students with college and career planning, goal setting, and understanding their strengths. The program also includes “My Playbook,” a software program that provides personalized “plays” to help students stay on track with all their learning objectives.
