What makes me unique? What career is right for me? How do I choose the right college? How will I pay for college? Will my family support my decisions?
While the majority of middle school students aspire to go to college after high school, questions like these can be overwhelming for those trying to figure out what it takes to reach their goals.
That’s why Hobsons developed the Naviance College and Career Readiness Curriculum – a blended learning experience for students in grades 6-12 that helps develop critical non-cognitive skills and college knowledge, and shows how other students have persevered to overcome obstacles.
The Curriculum is designed for the classroom. It can be taught in advisory period or in a career-focused class, or embedded in a core class. With lesson plans and easy-to-understand technology, the lessons guide students through the steps they need to take to be ready for transitioning from middle school to high school, or planning for life after high school. Students learn about critical topics related to self-discovery, developing success skills, building a support network, exploring career options, and planning for college – academically, socially, emotionally, and financially.
With our recent Naviance Curriculum enhancements, instructors are now able to assign any lesson to any student, regardless of grade level. This greater flexibility helps counselors and teachers ensure that students receive the college and career instruction that they need. Multiple instructors can also now be assigned to a single Naviance Curriculum class so that counselors and teachers can collaborate on course delivery. Both enhancements empower teachers and counselors to help all students chart the best path through school to reach their full potential.
