Redefining Ready! National Scholarship Winners Announced

AASA and Hobsons Reward Scholarships to Students who Demonstrate Key Indicators of College Readiness

ARLINGTON, VA – June 19, 2018 Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Naviance, and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, are pleased to announce the Redefining Ready! National Scholarship winners. The 15 student honorees were selected after submitting a 30-second social media video telling the world why they are college, career, and life ready.

Announced in February at AASA’s National Conference on Education, the social-media based competition was created to provide students with the opportunity to share how they are college, career, and life ready beyond a single test score.

Students were asked to post a 30-second video on YouTube and share it on Twitter by using the hashtag #RedefiningReady and tagging @AASAHQ and @Hobsons. Students used phones, iPads, or video cameras to film the videos and were judged on compelling content.

I was very much impressed by their creative minds,” said Daniel A. Domenech, executive director, AASA. “We congratulate our honorees, but we also applaud all of the students who submitted entries in our competition. We wish these individuals well as they work to create pathways to make outstanding contributions to society.”

“We are pleased to partner with AASA on the Redefining Ready! National Scholarship competition,” said Monica Morrell, General Manager of Naviance by Hobsons. “Our mission is to enable students and families with the resources and information necessary to establish the best plan for each student to achieve their goals, whether they go on to college, the military, or the workforce.”

Redefining Ready! uses various metrics, including success in Advanced Placement or dual credit classes, completion of internships or industry certifications and co-curricular participation, to better assess students' potential for postsecondary success.
